I Feel Like Something Funny is Needed (Ramble Warning)

Because I feel cruddy otherwise.  I first noticed last Friday that I was feeling what could have been my asthmatic lungs letting me know that they were awake.  I spent most of the day Friday and all last weekend sneezing my head off - and wondering why, because all the allergy triggers have been frozen!  I heard a news report yesterday that the Tulsa Health Department has released.  There are a few assorted cold-like or flu-like bugs that are going around but they are not the flu - but apparently the emergency rooms are being filled up with people thinking they have the flu but what they have is one of the bugs.  Which don't respond to treatment and have to be worn out.  Yesterday, I started to feel pretty bad and was exhausted by the end of the day so I was pretty sure that I might have one of those bugs.  The cold-type, not the flu-type is my guess.  I didn't want to go to work today, but I had a couple of projects that I had to do and that had to be done today so I had no choice.  I got everything done that needed to be done and I was pretty tired by the end of the day. Also, I'm still sneezing my head off and tonight my throat is getting sore.

I am most likely going to be home tomorrow, but I'll decide for sure in the morning.

The extreme cold last night that hung around until this morning didn't help!  It was in the low teens last night and I like to froze just going from the house to the car this morning!  It was so cold that my car had difficulty getting warm enough to actually blow other-than-ice-cold-air when I needed the heater.  It won't be as cold tonight, but it will still be cold.

I picked Otter up at her apartment after work today - she made a point of keeping the neck of her hoodie over her face and not facing me!  I don't blame her, she doesn't want to be sick.  Anyway, she got the car tonight and will have it until Sunday.  She'll bring her laundry over then and might actually get to keep the car all next week as well because Bill's taking a few vacation days so he'll be off the entire week of Thanksgiving.  Although I'm probably going to take her car to Chevy to get the oil changed on Black Friday, and Bill will need it one day to replace a clogged valve.

Anyway, here's the funny stuff:

This one is especially funny, Dad always told a joke about how he grabbed Preparation H instead of his denture adhesive once!  I don't really think it happened, I have heard variations of that joke for years but it was funny anyway.

OK, so that's not funny.  But it is true and we always like Mike Rowe.  Dirty Jobs is no longer being produced, but we always wanted to see a show where he painted parking lots - preferably lots in S. TEXAS that had been baking in the incandescent sun all day!

This one isn't actually a joke, either.  It's true!

I like this one for a couple of reasons!  Not the least of which is that I'm married to an Engineer and most of the stories about them are true....

Sunday Switches

No, not this kind:

The kind of switch I'm talking about is switching from this:

to this:

We've had a couple of fairly cool nights, so it's time to change from my spring/summer quilt to Bill's fall/winter quilt.

It's been a quiet weekend.  Otter went to one of her friend's houses yesterday, for a birthday/Homestuck party that was also a sleepover for some of the girls.  Homestuck is a story series that is pretty popular, I think it's just internet based but Otter seems to really enjoy it.  She's told me a lot about it and it sounds fun.  She and her friends have regular get-togethers and there is a lot of cosplay (character costuming) involved.  Because Otter is a natural-born crafter, cosplay is right up her alley as Mom used to say.  She came home a couple of hours ago, I don't think that they got much sleep last night because about the first thing Otter said was that she was badly in need of caffiene.

Frasier is officially Nekkid Dog now, he has been for about 4 days now.  He still has some interest in the spot, but it's pretty much healed now and he doesn't seem to want to lick/chew as much as he did.  Just every so often.  He's much happier now and is also letting us sleep all night.  Maggie's also pleased, she was probably tired of having to run and hide when he wanted to play - she might have been spliced into multiple pieces by the cone!

Movie Review.  Pirates, Band of Misfits.  Let's just say that it was a complete waste of time and leave it at that.

I did get one thing done that I wanted to do this weekend:

My version of Pinterest!  It's in the stash closet, and it's intended use is for crochet & craft related things.  Articles, pictures, jokes, etc.  I have a similar sized bulletin board in the laundry room, it's covered to the point of invisibility with political, religious, etc. cartoons/columns/pictures and things that just fit us, such as cartoons that feature Engineers and their native insanity.

I'm not opposed to Pinterest, actually.  It's just something that I'm not going to participate in.  Two reasons.  1), I have well-justified privacy issues and 2) I have enough ways to waste time without adding any more!  I have a feeling that I'd probably spend hours and hours on Pinterest.  It looks like a lot of fun, though.

I think I'm going to go waste some time on Craigslist now.  We're always looking for pachinko machines, and it's just fun to browse.

Monday. New Day. New Week.

I still don't like Mondays!  But Monday still came, even though I didn't want it to.  Guess I'll just have to put up with it.

Froggy, you commented about engineers.  Yes, they do have their redeeming moments.  I'll agree to that.  But they also have their other moments!  :)

I have a general prayer request.  I'm not going into details, but someone I know is having a hard time dealing with a situation at their work and I think that prayer would help.

I also have another prayer request, this deals with someone that Froggy and I are both close to and there is a health issue that is serious with one of their relatives.  Prayers please!

The doggies had an outing today.  They went with me to get Otter from college.  I have about 45 minutes or so after I get home, before I have to head back out to get her.  It only takes me about 10 minutes to get there, it's not far at all.  So, if I don't have any errands I will come home from work and then go back to get her a little bit later.  Today, the dogsters got to go!  They were happy, but then they generally are when they hear the word "ride."  We headed out a little early, and we got there about 10 minutes before Otter's last class of the day let out.  Maggie spent most of the ride sitting in the front seat, where Otter usually sits.  Frasier was camped out in the back seat and he takes up the entire seat, so Maggie wouldn't have had any room in the backseat anyway.  They were happy to get in the car, but then they got just a little droopy at first.  Until they realized that we were heading in the opposite direction from the vet's, that is.  Then they were happy crazy.  When we got to the school and parked, I rolled all the windows down and they went from side to side just to stick their heads out each window.  Then Maggie apparently realized that we were waiting for Otter, and she stood up with her front feet out the window and the tail on full wag.  I'm surprised that the dog even has a tail left, I thought it might just wag off!  They were very happy to see Otter, although Maggie was so happy that Otter almost couldn't get in the car.  They have always gone to get her from school on an occasional basis, and they always knew where they were going (once we got past the vet's).  I'm sure that they'll remember, they won't go often but they will be happy when they do.

While I was home, the school bus went by.  They didn't react to it, so I guess they've figured out that the sound no longer means Otter.

I went to Wallyworld at lunch today.  And discovered that they are putting their fabric department back in.  Otter and I thought we saw material bolts in the store we were in yesterday, but we were on the way out the door when we noticed it.  I was at a different one today, and I asked.  I'm glad that they are bringing it back.  So is Otter.

Froggy, I'm thinking that I might finish the scarf for your friend tonight.  I got a lot done on it yesterday.  I measured it quickly, so I might be off on the amount I have left, but it's going fast.  As soon as it's finished, I'll get her hat done.  Then I'll get your sock monkey hat assembled (the pieces are done, it's just not put together) and I'll send it all to you along with your swiffer cover.  I'll let you know.  Probably sometime this week.

Then I need to find another de-stashing project.  Somehow, I don't think that's going to be difficult to do.

Stroke of Genius!? (Warning: Political Content)

Smart move on McCain's part. Very smart. He's picked exactly what might win him the election: Female, younger than he is and Pro-Life. I'm sure that everyone has or will hear of his choice soon, but here's an article about it. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25970882/ I guess we all know by now where I stand on certain issues. I'd love to see a woman get in there and it not be Hitlary!

Anyway, now that the political stuff is out of the way for the moment - on to other subjects. But there will probably be other political comments as the election gets closer. So don't say you weren't warned! :)

Otter is playing the asthma game today. It's mostly allergy related, but it still kept her at home today. It's my turn to stay home with her so I'm getting my laundry and housework done early. We had discussed leaving the pool up until Labor Day but now I'm glad that it's already down and put away. It hasn't really been warm enough for the water to be comfortable to swim and Otter isn't up to it anyway. And it's one less chore to worry about this weekend. We have plenty to do without it, we won't be bored because of inactivity! I did have one errand I had to run, since the mail theft last year I don't mail anything at all from home (or even from the office), so I had to go to the post office and drop off the envelopes with the bills I paid this morning. But that was a short run, and I made sure that Otter was doing ok before I left. Otherwise, I would have waited until Bill got home from work and then gone.

Otter is napping on the couch, so I'm in the back part of the house. I have laundry going but it's far enough from the living room that it won't disturb her. I don't want to be noisy, she needs to sleep. So I'm playing on the computer and might move to the bedroom to watch tv in there. I need to vacuum, but I can do that later on after she's awake. Both dogs seem to be copying Otter, they are also snoozing. But they do that frequently anyway so it's probably just coincidence!

I was going to post my August book list today, but there are still a couple of days left in the month and I have more reading to do. I just got another book at the library that I'd been waiting on, and I have several that I bought recently which I haven't gotten to. As well as one that I started a week or so ago and then put aside for other books. And I think I still have two other books from the library that I haven't gotten to yet.

Frasier just relocated. He came back here where I am, more or less fell in a heap in the floor and sighed. And was asleep almost as soon as he hit the floor. Maggie was asleep in the living room but she might have moved as well. But chances are that wherever she is, she's asleep!

FROGGY: GO TO THE DOCTOR. NOW!

Ok, back to our regularly scheduled blogging: Bill is retooling his car project yet again. He's building a hydrogen generator, supposedly they will help with gas mileage. He's had some improvement. But he's a typical engineer. In other words, he keeps taking it apart and rebuilding it. He's changed it each time. I've lost track of which incarnation the project is on now, but he's having fun with it. Seems like it would be something that wouldn't be fun, but he's certainly enjoying it. Our next door neighbor, Chris, also has built one (or two or three) and they spend a lot of time talking about the generators and working on them. Froggy's hubby would be included in the "male bonding" sessions (they remind me of little boys with new toys), but he lives several hundered miles away. But from what I understand from Froggy, he's rebuilt his more than once too. I guess it's just a guy thing? I know it's an engineer thing. Engineers just are not normal! Froggy's husband might not be an "official" engineer, but he is probably one by experience so he counts as one. Right, Froggy?
(Froggy, did you go to the doctor yet?)
