Virginia's son-in-law called her attorney and said that he's willing to let them have official custody. He wants one day a week visitation, he's willing to let it be monitored. He says he'll pay child support. With his past history, he probably won't keep up with either the visits or the child support. But the important thing is that the children will stay in a safe environment and be raised with love and not having to worry about where their next meal is coming from or if they'll have a place to sleep.
One of two things happened. Either he discovered how much an attorney would cost (and his track record is only spending on himself) or he is not willing to do what it takes to pass a drug test - and there would be regular ones down the road.
Virginia and David are meeting with their attorney early next week. They wanted a few days to think it over, mostly to be sure that he's serious and won't change his mind when it comes time to sign all the official paperwork.
However, they still need prayers. Also the son-in-law, he probably needs to be prayed for as well.
And now, on to the other stuff! Otter drove us home from the grocery store yesterday, just a short drive but she did great. She got tailgated, but I told her to ignore the jerk and not let it rattle her. And I also told her that when she was going to need to stop at the next intersection, to start early so he wouldn't ram into the back of the car. She handled it very well.
But at least it's Friday and it was a long week. I was sick all last week, then I really didn't feel the best until about Wednesday. I've been very busy at work, but I'm just about caught up.
We're probably going to be in for a rainy weekend. How much and when depends a great deal on hurricane Ike. Right now, it looks like Galveston is the center of the target. Galveston was hit in 1900, something like 6,000 or 8,000 people died. This storm is just as big and looks to be following the same track. Most of the people in the area have evacuated, but there are still some who think they can ride it out. I read an article just now, the police were going door to door before they evacuated themselves. They were telling any people who insisted on staying that they needed to write their SS #'s on their arms, since they might be gambling with their lives. That would certainly get my attention, but apparently the shallow end of the gene pool is still populated! However, the population might be taking a dip soon. I like my home, but it's not really worth risking my life over in a situation like that!
Uncle Froggy (Otter's nickname for Froggy's husband) works in Houston, he smartly headed home yesterday well ahead of the main evacuation so he probably didn't have quite as much traffic to deal with as the people who left after about noon yesterday. I saw some pictures just now of downtown Houston. I don't honestly think I've ever seen that area deserted. But it is now! Froggy - does Uncle Froggy want a different blog name? Otter also considered Crazy Uncle, if he'd prefer that one. :)
Other than that, I'm just glad that it's Friday. This week feels like it's had 5 Mondays. Now I'm going to go get into my chocolate stash.

Uncle Froggy said it only took 5-6 hours to get home. It usually takes 4.
Now we just wait and see when he gets to go back to Houston to work. Hopefully soon. no work-no pay.
